At a press conference on Friday, Winnipeg police said officers attempting to arrest a wanted man came under gunfire after he fled into a home and took three people hostage. Police rescued all three hostages before discovering the residence was on fire. "These brave officers were able to deal with a very volatile and dangerous situation and ultimately saved the lives of three hostages," police said. The suspect was taken into custody following a second exchange of gunfire outside the home, and the incident is now under investigation by Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit.
