Search and rescue efforts have intensified in Venezuela following Wednesday’s two, powerful back-to-back earthquakes. At least 589 people are confirmed dead and thousands more are believed missing. Video of the moment the tremors occurred are flooding social media, showing the devastating impact the event had on infrastructure and the people living in the region. Dan Baker, a British citizen living in Caracas, described the events firsthand while he was exercising at a gym when the earthquake occurred. He said he “started hearing massive thunder sounds,” and everyone around him screamed, taking cover from debris crashing down. “The earthquake lasted what felt like a really long time. It felt like about 30 seconds,” Baker added, “I saw three tower blocks that completely collapsed. And one of them had came down over a three lane highway.
