Growing up in the 1970s, Gru idolizes the Vicious 6, a powerful team of villains led by Belle Bottom after they betray their former leader, Wild Knuckles. When Gru gets the chance to audition for the Vicious 6, he believes this could be the beginning of his villain career. But the group rejects him for being too young, and Gru responds by stealing the Zodiac Stone, a powerful artifact they had just taken from Wild Knuckles. This makes Gru the enemy of the most dangerous villains in the world. With Gru in danger, the Minions try to help in their own chaotic way.
