Humanoid robots take to the pitch in South Korea at RoboCup 2026 finals

Sunday marked the finals for the annual international RoboCup – the world’s largest robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) soccer competition. Three-thousand competitors from 45 different countries gathered in Incheon, South Korea, with their respective teams of humanoid robots taking the pitch in hopes to win the champion title. With robots toppling about and soccer balls slowly rolling their way into the net, Team Hephaestus of Tsinghua University eventually beat Team Mountain and Sea of China Agricultural University in what seemed to be a crowd-pleasing final.
