Joël Lightbound, Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement and Quebec Lieutenant, was in Toronto on Monday to share an update on the government's Buy Canadian policy. The minister announced new measures to simplify and modernize procurement procedures for small businesses in Canada. This includes updating digital tools, including it’s AI chatbot Procura, and standardizing procurement documents. “This is about changing the default, making it easier for small businesses to actually show up, compete and win,” Lightbound said. It was also announced that the government will be investing $80 million over the next five years to support Innovative Solutions Canada, which funds research and development and prototype testing. The Buy Canadian Policy launched in December 2025, with the goal to prioritize Canadian suppliers, materials and content in federal procurement.
