The U.S. dream of winning its first World Cup on its home soil ended on Monday night as Belgium got off to a fast start and kept the pressure on throughout the game. With the help of an extra goal during stoppage time, Belgium defeated the USMNT 4-1 in the Round of 16 match. Charles De Ketelaere put two balls in the back of the net for Belgium, which was able to take advantage of defensive lapses by the Americans to earn a place in the quarterfinals. Malik Tillman scored the USMNT's only goal of the night with a free-kick shot that tied the game at one. But even that highlight silver lining came with a dark cloud, as Belgium responded 61 seconds later to reclaim the lead. This is the second time in 12 years that Belgium eliminated the U.S. squad in a Round of 16 match.
