The FBI and other law enforcement officials announced dozens of charges on Tuesday in Los Angeles, California against Bishnoi gang members and other India-based organized crime groups. First Assistant United States Attorney Bill Essayli said the charges made are part of the massive international investigation known as “Operation Hardball.” U.S. law enforcement is “not going to allow anyone to engage in violent activities on American soil, especially those that are here unlawfully in our country,” Essayli said. Patrick Grandy, the FBI’s L.A. Assistant Director in Charge said “these violent acts include political and religious assassinations, shootings, murders, kidnappings, extortions, assaults, weapons, and drug trafficking.” In 2023, B.C. Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gunned down outside a place of worship in Surrey, B.C. The crime is tied to the “Operation Hardball" investigation.
