There has been a big break in the crackdown on transnational criminal gangs based in India; gangs accused of extortion, drug-trafficking, kidnapping and targeted killings – including the murder of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, B.C., three years ago. Acting together, the RCMP and FBI arrested three people in B.C., 13 in the U.S., and one in Spain. Seven other accused men are already in prison in India, including the alleged leaders of criminal syndicates, who – from their prison cells – ordered violent crimes around the world, often targeting the Indian diaspora.
