Sky News Defence Analyst Peter Jennings says the US needs a “different type of strategy” to divert Iran away from needing to control the Strait of Hormuz. The US strikes have been “focused on trying to undermine Iran’s ability to go after the tankers,” Mr Jennings told Sky News host James Morrow. “How long this whack-a-mole process goes on, I think, is an altogether open question,” he said. You can smash boats until Kingdom Come, but you’ve really got to try and divert Iranians away from the idea of wanting to control the Strait of Hormuz. “I think that calls for a different type of strategy. “One that’s more focused on going after senior leaders in the Revolutionary Guard and one which imposes heavier economic costs on the Iranians because I think that is one area of vulnerability that they do pay attention to. “I’m not seeing that strategy.”
