Nuclear testing veterans feel “let down” after a promised meeting with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was “downgraded” to one with the veterans minister. The ex-British service personnel witnessed atomic and hydrogen bomb tests in the 1950s and ‘60s. They have been campaigning for access to their own medical records, held by the Ministry of Defence. They believe the cancers and other significant health problems endured by the men and their children were the result of radiation exposure. Victoria Derbyshire speaks to veteran Brian Unthank, Alan Owen of the Labrats campaign group, and Steve Purse, the son of a nuclear test veteran. #bbc #bbcnews #bbcnewsnight #Newsnight #victoriaderbyshire Newsnight is the BBC's flagship news and current affairs TV programme - with analysis, debate, exclusives, and robust interviews.
