US prosecutors have dropped charges against an Olympian accused of vandalising Washington DC’s Reflecting Pool. Authorities say new information suggests the damage was the result of flawed installation by the contractor. The Department of Justice has also blamed a rushed and “botched” installation for the damage. This contradicts US President Donald Trump’s previous claims it was the result of “sick, deranged” vandals. Lawyers for former Olympic canoeist David Hearn are now demanding an apology, accusing the Trump administration of an abuse of power.
