Three people near Montreal are undergoing emergency preventative treatment for rabies after being attacked by a stray cat. The province says it’s the first confirmed case of raccoon rabies in a cat, a variant of the virus that had been eliminated in Quebec. Raccoon rabies is on the rise in Quebec, with 118 cases confirmed so far in 2026.
