Trump administration sued over latest round of tariffs

25 states sued the Trump administration Monday, arguing its latest tariffs illegally replace import duties the Supreme Court struck down in February. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes joined attorneys general from New York, California and 22 other states in challenging the new tariffs in federal court. The new lawsuit follows two other lawsuits filed in July by small businesses that also challenged the tariffs. The Trump administration announced the tariffs late last month under an authority granted to the president to impose taxes and sanctions to fight unfair trade practices. The White House accused the affected countries, which make 99% of the goods the U.S. imports, of not doing enough to curb forced labor. The tariffs will range from 10% to 12.5% and apply to 60 trading partners, the White House explained. Those nations account for 99% of U.S. imports.
