Local ranchers are fighting to save their properties in Clinton, B.C. as the raging Pear Lake wildfire continues to tear through the region. Barb Edmonson, owner of Firefly Ranch, saw her livelihood and years of hard work go up in flames, saying they were “hit with the vortex of black ash, sand, gravel… it was like being in a hurricane. It was completely black.” The area was under an evacuation order, but many locals stayed to protect their buildings after structural defence personnel visited a few days before the fire hit, saying “there was nothing left for fire protection.” Despite Edmonson's best efforts to save her property, many of the historic structures on her 1896 ranch were destroyed when the wildfire roared through. Edmonson says she was able to safely evacuate her cattle and horses before the fire reached the property. Global’s Grace Ke reports.
