Republicans Overseas UK Chair Greg Swenson discusses the Trump administration being forced to pay $US100 billion in tariff refunds due to a Supreme Court ruling. “Even though we have to make a refund now, the fact that he used that authority… he used it at the time knowing there was a risk that it could be rejected by the courts," Mr Swenson told News24 host James Morrow. "It gave him immediate negotiating power at that time in April of 2025. “A lot of wars have been ended because of the threats of those tariffs. “Even though they ultimately backfired, it wasn’t without some success.”
