A legal expert is warning the government to get ahead of the rapid rise of AI smart glasses before having to play catch-up on privacy laws. The devices are proving transformative for people with disabilities, but the ability to film strangers without their knowledge is raising concerns. Apart from a small, red recording light on the frame of some models, many people may not realise they’re being filmed. Experts warn the new wave of AI technology could be smart glasses with built-in facial recognition, which could access personal information and increase the risk of identity theft. Astor Legal Principal Lawyer Avinash Singh claims the government should try and get ahead of this now rather than risk playing catch-up later.
