FDD Iran Program Senior Director Benham Taleblu says for the sake of US President Donald Trump’s legacy, he must move to an Iran strategy that targets the “finger on the trigger”. “The only thing that was able to get Tehran to turn off this technology was the fact that the Trump administration bombed the sites where it was happening,” Mr Taleblu told News24. “Getting them [Iran] to commit to that, or just to create a promissory note and say in five years time they won’t do this or ten years time they don’t do this, brings us all right back where we started “That’s why I think the only real win here for President Trump, who will need to think beyond the midterms for his legacy, personally and politically, is a strategy that targets the finger on the trigger, rather than keep trying to deal with the capability. “That’s a policy against the regime in its entirety.”
