News24 host James Macpherson examines the backlash against Liberal candidate Andy Pobjoy after Geelong’s LGBTQ community accused him of betrayal for running for the Liberal Party. “I always thought the great message of the gay movement was that we shouldn't stereotype gay people,” Mr Macpherson said. “Andy Pobjoy is a gay man who owns Piano Bar Geelong – a place he advertises as Geelong's home of inclusivity. His piano bar hosts drag queen shows and drag bingo events as well as supporting an assortment of other LGBTQ causes. “The gay guy who runs the gay piano bar is running in the Victorian election as a candidate for the Liberal Party. “Organisers of Geelong's annual gay festival told the ABC that Mr Pobjoy had betrayed the LGBTQ community. “Now Geelong's gay community is saying it'll boycott Andy's piano bar because, and I'm quoting from comments on his social media pages, they don't feel safe or welcome there. They don't feel safe because he's running as a Liberal candidate.”
