Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters president and CEO Dennis Darby says Canada and the U.S. are holding intensive discussions as President Donald Trump’s Aug. 19 tariff deadline approaches. In an interview with Global News, Darby said potential new tariffs “would be devastating to so many businesses” on both sides of the border. He said concessions by Canada could ultimately be part of a deal if they result in the U.S. dropping some of its trade measures. Darby stressed that businesses need a comprehensive agreement that addresses existing tariffs and provides long-term certainty.
