Residents of Summerland, B.C., who’ve been evacuated due to the Bald Range wildfire, are still awaiting the green light from officials to return to their homes and survey the damage. Summerland Mayor Doug Holmes urged residents to support one another at this challenging time. “When we do get back, we need to brace ourselves for what’s there or what’s not there. It’s going to be hard. It’s going to be really hard,” Holmes said, before breaking down. “We all know people, right now, we all know people who have lost homes. We all have friends who have lost homes, and those people need our help. We can’t have any infighting," he added. The Bald Range wildfire broke out Friday, forcing more than 20,000 people to evacuate. The fire is measured around 16,000 hectares and is still burning out-of-control.
