‘Very expensive’: AUKUS commitments may be ‘gobbling up’ defence expenditure

Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman reviews Australia’s defence spending, saying the submarine project under AUKUS is “very expensive”. “The trouble is, look, we’ve committed to this very important subs project,” Mr Newman told Sky News host Steve Price. “Very expensive, but it can’t be allowed to sort of gobble up the rest of the necessary expenditure in defence for the air force and the army.”
