Crowley beats Hong in Wisconsin Democratic governor primary

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley narrowly beat state lawmaker and democratic socialist Francesca Hong in Wisconsin's Democratic primary for governor, which was called early Wednesday morning. "Today, I stand before you filled with gratitude, with humility and hope, as I formally accept the Democratic nomination to be the next governor of the great state of Wisconsin," Mr. Crowley told reporters at a press conference Wednesday. The Associated Press called the race with Mr. Crowley holding a narrow 0.4 percentage-point lead over Ms. Hong. The results came as a shock and setback to progressives after weeks of Ms. Hong leading in the polls. Mr. Crowley's victory also followed his return to the race after briefly suspending his campaign in July.
