Former foreign minister Alexander Downer says Australia has joined the global condemnation of Iran's capital punishment. “It’s about time the West stood up to Iran and exposed the nature of the Iranian regime,” Mr Downer told News24 host Chris Kenny. “This presumably is a response to the grotesque public hangings of Iranian dissidents in town squares recently.”
