An American oil company is moving ahead with plans to drill in Greenland, bringing Calgary based ‘Stampede Drilling’ on board to provide equipment. The move by Texas-based ‘Greenland Energy’, comes months after U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his threats to annex the semi-autonomous Arctic island. The government of Greenland says some equipment has already arrived on the Arctic island, without the necessary approval, and warns all future logistical matters must be done through the correct processes. ‘Stampede Drilling’ says its rig is "undergoing upgrades for potential deployment to Greenland... remains in Canada,” and that they will not participate “unless Greenland Energy's drilling program receives all required regulatory consents and approvals.” Meghan Cobb explains.
