Premier Doug Ford responded Thursday to reports Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives spent $3,000 to surveil Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie while on a trip to Jamaica, saying he wasn’t aware until recently and that he “doesn’t approve” of the party’s actions. “I don’t watch every single dollar when I’m in the middle of a campaign,” Ford said when asked about the report. The premier emphasized that the $3,000 had come from the party’s own coffers. “He will do anything to stop someone he doesn't like,” said Ontario Liberal MPP Stephanie Smyth said of Ford. She said she finds it “really hard to believe” after Ford said he knew nothing about it. “If it wasn’t you premier, who was it? Who authorized this, who is responsible for the spending, who is directing the operation, did you see a report on this premier?” Smyth asked.
