Mount Etna’s ongoing eruption is disrupting travel in Sicily, with volcanic ash forcing flights at Catania airport to be cancelled or rerouted during the busy summer season. The volcano has been erupting for six straight days, sending lava down its slopes and ash reportedly as far as Malta and Libya. Stranded passengers described a lack of support as they scrambled to make alternate travel arrangements. “We’re completely on our own,” passenger Rosario Rizzo said after spending the night at the airport.
