Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced a new “playbook” Thursday to attract data centre investments to the province, claiming nimbyism “doesn’t make sense.” Ford said he doesn’t want to “impose” data centres on cities that are not willing, but said that such facilities would help drive economic growth and ensure Canadian data “remains right here in Canada.” The premier added the new framework would ensure companies cover their own electricity costs and establish a separate rate for large-scale data centres. He added that Ontario would not offer financial incentives to try to lure investment but would rely on its own “competitive advantage.” RELATED: https://globalnews.ca/news/12019192/oakville-enacts-data-centre-pause-as-ontario-municipalities-wrestle-with-ai-buildout/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on TikTok HERE: https://www.tiktok.com/@globalnews.ca?lang=en #GlobalNews #datac
