At least 38 people were killed Saturday in a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Indonesia. The quake damaged buildings and triggered landslides on the island of Flores. A search and rescue operation is underway as workers sift through the rubble in search of survivors and to recover bodies. One survivor who had experienced earthquakes in the past said, "the trauma is overwhelming, when I was a kid I felt the 1992 quake and then the 2022 quake, and now this. So the fear is there, the trauma is there.” A tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake but was later lifted after no significant sea-level changes were detected.
