Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre called on the Liberal government to “cancel their September gas tax hike and eliminate all gas taxes from now until at least Canada Day” at a press conference near Vancouver International Airport on Sunday morning. A fuel excise tax holiday implemented by the Liberal government in April is set to expire on Labour Day. In reference to recent delays and confusion surrounding the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge between Windsor and Detroit and ongoing trade negotiations with the United States, Poilievre said, “he's (Carney) got to tell the truth. No more concessions without wins for Canada. He's wasted a year and most of our leverage.” Poilievre rallied with North Vancouver-Capilano Conservative candidate Stephen Curran at a byelection rally on Saturday.
