The World Bank estimates that Syria will need at least $261 billion in order to rebuild the devastated society after its liberation in 2024. This as refugees — and many descendants never able to call Syria a safe haven due to a longstanding civil war — flock back to their Middle Eastern birthplace to confront their shattered memories of the war-torn nation. The difficulty of reconstructing Syria isn’t just about getting the billions of dollars worth of required funds though, it’s about having a generation both committed and determined to rebuild from nothing.
