Edwards defends himself amid Censure vote

Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) defended himself Tuesday as the House prepared to vote on a censure motion following an Ethics Committee finding that he engaged in “persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct” toward two female staffers. According to the Washington Post, the Ethics Committee found that Edwards did not engage in sexual activity with or explicitly proposition any of his staffers, but said he was aware “that his excessive attention toward the young women had led to rumors and innuendo in the office.” The committee recommended that Edwards be censured. "Generosity is not sexual harassment. Caring deeply about the people with whom you've worked for years is not sexual harassment" Edwards said at the debate. Edwards also expressed being deeply sorry his actions put his wife and family in a position to endure "embarrassment, hurt and public scrutiny" and that regret is not an "admission of sexual harassment." #cspan #chuckedwards #censurevote #news
