Former foreign minister Alexander Downer says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese should be called to front the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion. “What Anthony Albanese has done, and he’s very clever politically, he’s set up a royal commission to assuage public anger, but he’s made sure that the terms of reference are such that people like him and Tony Burke won’t ever have to appear before the Royal Commission,” Mr Downer told News24 host Chris Kenny. “I would ask him a lot of questions about the decisions they made to criticise Israel, condemn Israel, attack the Israeli government, and to recognise the state of Palestine, therefore granting a diplomatic victory to Hamas.”
