Associate Professor of Criminology from Central Queensland University Dr Xanthe Weston warns young recruits are committing violent crimes for just a few hundred dollars. “We’re talking a couple of hundred dollars because ultimately for some young people they want entrance into these gangs,” Ms Weston told News24 host Chris Kenny. “Ultimately, we’re seeing daylight shootings; we’ve seen people’s homes being broken into, fathers being shot in front of their children because it’s just a mistaken case of identity. “It’s a really worrying trend that we’ve seen growing recently.”
