Curtis Wright has been a permanent U.S. resident for 25 years. In November, a misdemeanor charge for carrying Xanax from when he was 17 years old landed him in an ICE detention centre for nine months. Wright was travelling home to Texas after a short business trip to Mexico. He had left the states hundreds of times during his 25 years living there, but this trip ended differently. “They shackled me up, full body chains, wrists attached to the waist, ankles, everything together like I’m some murder convict. Put me in a back cell room and then transferred me to my first facility.” Wright said. Now, he's rebuilding a life in Edmonton, the place he was born in but never really called home.
