For me, what makes the Hellboy series, created by Mike Mignola, truly special in my eyes is that by weaving together folklore, horror tropes and mythology, he has managed to build one of the most intricately crafted universes out there. While the films, especially the older ones by Guillermo del Toro, have introduced some movie-exclusive entities, for the most part, rather than inventing wholly original monsters, Mignola frequently borrows authentic regional legends and makes them his own. Some of you might be fans of H. P. Lovecraft, while some of you might love the Arthurian legends, others still might be into Judeo-Christian mysticism. The beautiful thing is, Hellboy has something for all of you in it, and in a way that will feel familiar yet strangely new to you. Confusing as it might sound, I assure you the moment you pick up this series, my words will make perfect sense to you. #Hellboy #MikeMignola #AnungUnRama #RightHandOfDoom #bprd
