Trump posted a map showing Iceland, Canada, Greenland, Mexico and much of the Caribbean and Central America covered by the American flag, prompting Iceland to summon U.S. Ambassador Billy Long for an explanation. Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir called the image an insult to sovereign nations, while the foreign minister said Iceland was taking Trump seriously after repeatedly being told that was how his rhetoric should be interpreted. The controversy follows Trump’s repeated comments about acquiring Greenland and Canada and Long’s earlier joke that Iceland could become America’s 52nd state. Ring of Fire's Josh G. explains.
