Shadow Regional Transport and Roads Minister Paul Toole says One Nation’s proposed change to allow police to turn off body cameras when dealing with violent criminals during an arrest is a “backward step”. “It doesn’t take into account what the police association is saying and what police officers are saying on the ground,” Mr Toole told News24. “We need to back our police, and we need to keep cameras. “They protect our cops, and they actually provide evidence of footage at various situations that they are involved in. “We would be taking a backward step.”
