I have watched David Cronenberg’s The Fly several times, but recently I decided to watch the original. Back in 1958, Kurt Neumann made the first-ever adaptation of George Langelaan’s story of the same name, and it was a financial success. Once I watched it, I realised it has one of the most haunting scenes... yes, I am talking about the “Help me” sequence during the climax! Now, the thing is, though Cronenberg kept the basic premise of his 1986 version the same as Neumann’s, their approach to the story couldn’t be any more different! The original is a tight suspense thriller with some horror elements, but the remake turns The Fly into a much more intimate romance and body-horror flick. #TheFly #TheFly1958 #TheFly1986 #Brundlefly
