Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) spoke Tuesday about his proposed legislation to give the U.S. public a 50% ownership stake in the largest artificial intelligence companies. "If the lives of every man, woman and child are going to be fundamentally changed by this technology, then the people of this country must make the decisions about AI and not just a handful of oligarchs," he said at a Future of Life Institute event dubbed the "Pro-Human Assembly." The senator's bill proposes a one-time 50% tax paid in stock for companies with over $200 million in annual AI-related receipts, which he estimates could seed an initial fund of roughly $7 trillion in assets.
