Kosovo’s former president, Hashim Thaci, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of war crimes. Thaci, who resigned from office six years ago to face the charges, stood in silence in the Hague as his sentence was read. The 58-year-old was convicted of murder, torture, cruel treatment and arbitrary detention. Crimes committed while he was a top commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army during the war for independence from Serbia in the late 1990s. Thousands of Thaci supporters protested the verdict in Kosovo’s capital Wednesday, with some calling it “completely unjust” and the “harshest verdict ever handed down.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on TikTok HERE: https://www.tiktok.com/@globalnews.ca?lang=en #GlobalNews
