Air Force Secretary Troy Meink has publicly confirmed for the first time that the United States has deployed “on-orbit space control weapons” capable of defending U.S. forces against hostile actions, while declining to reveal what the systems are, how many exist or whether they have been tested. The announcement marks a significant change in how openly the Pentagon discusses military capabilities in orbit as the U.S., China and Russia compete for greater control of the space domain.
