Star Trek has done sequel episodes plenty of times. The Original Series brought Harry Mudd back for a second round of chaos, Deep Space Nine spent years resolving plots that began in its earliest seasons, and this very show has returned to its Gorn material more than once. Also, I mean, Wrath of Khan is literally a sequel to TOS’s “Space Seed” episode. So a callback itself is nothing new. But for this week’s Strange New Worlds episode- well, if you hadn’t read the synopsis in advance, I would’ve bet real money that a sequel to season one’s fairy-tale episode was nowhere on your list of guesses. And yet that’s exactly what we got. “Once La’an a Time” is a direct follow-up to “The Elysian Kingdom”, AKA that M’Benga episode from all the way back in season one, where everyone was stuck in his daughter’s fairytale-world, except this time the story is built around La’an. Obviously. #SNW #StrangeNewWorlds #StarTrekSNW #SNWS4E9 #SNWS4
