The first 60 Minutes season premiere following Bari Weiss’ sweeping overhaul of the program drew 7.9 million viewers, down 21 percent from last year and the show’s smallest premiere audience in Nielsen records dating to at least 2000. Viewership among adults 25 to 54 fell 33 percent as well, following months of upheaval that included the departures of Scott Pelley, Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega and executive producer Tanya Simon. The premiere paired Norah O’Donnell’s interview with an Air Force officer rescued after being shot down over Iran with Lesley Stahl’s investigation into the business of securing presidential pardons.
