B.C. Attorney General Niki Sharma announced Monday that the provincial government has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI following the deadly Tumbler Ridge school shooting in February. She said the government is suing OpenAI for its failure to notify law enforcement of threats made on its platform, ChatGPT, prior to the shooting. Sharma said the lawsuit has been filed in California because that is where OpenAI is headquartered, but also to support the families of the victims who have filed parallel suits in that state. Sharma said she has also written letters to federal ministers asking for changes to the Criminal Code of Canada.
