Scott Turow: "Right now, our great concern is that all although AI is presented as the future of America, that future is being written with stolen words. All of the major AI large language models were trained on a database of pirated works, thousands and thousands of pirated books. And those cases have begun to work their way through the court system...It doesn't make any sense to me. And I don't understand why the richest corporations in the world wanted to start out with work that they knew was stolen, except for what one memo written to Mark Zuckerberg is alleged to have said, which is that is this going to be a lot faster if we work with this database of stolen books?"
