U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an agreement on Tuesday with Denmark and Greenland to strengthen security in the Arctic and North Atlantic. The deal bolsters American military presence on the vast, icy island but keeps it under Danish control. In an earlier speech, Trump said the deal would allow the United States to build two military bases on the Arctic island. “Your security is our security, and our security is your security. We are truly pleased with the result that strengthen our shared security and strengthen our bond as close allies,” Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said. The agreement helps quell heightened tensions over Trump's repeated calls for Greenland to become part of the United States, which drove a wedge between the U.S. and its European allies.
