Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sharply criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) during his United Nations General Assembly speech, accusing him of antisemitism and claiming that "many Jews no longer feel safe in New York." "You falsely, repeatedly accuse Israel of genocide," he said Thursday. "Mr. Mamdani, you tried to stop me from coming here. You tried to silence me. Well, you can't silence me, you can't silence the truth. And here's the simple truth, Israel didn't commit genocide. Israel prevented genocide." The prime minister said accusations of Israel committing genocide are the "greatest lie of the century" and warned that such rhetoric has consequences for the Jewish people. "The lies you and other antisemites spread about the Jews and the Jewish state have real consequences," he said, pointing to attacks on Jews in New York and around the world.
