New U.S. customs requirements taking effect October 22 could disrupt or effectively halt many personal prescription shipments from licensed Canadian and international pharmacies, with industry groups warning that the new entry requirements make their existing delivery model unworkable. At the same time, the FDA continues to authorize state-run Canadian drug importation programs, approving Colorado in June after previously approving Florida in 2024. Florida’s own reports say its program has yet to contract with a foreign manufacturer, citing resistance from pharmaceutical companies and concerns from Canada about protecting its domestic drug supply.
