Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville used a roughly 20-minute Senate floor speech to argue that transgender identity is a mental-health issue before warning that airline pilots, flight attendants and air traffic controllers are members of the furry community and calling the situation “terrifying.” Tuberville later said his claim was based on an aviation meetup at a recent furry convention and acknowledged that the number of pilots involved was “probably not a whole lot.” The remarks come as Tuberville campaigns as the Republican nominee for governor of Alabama, three years after his months long blockade delayed more than 400 senior military promotions over Pentagon abortion policy.
