Gen. Wayne Eyre, former chief of the defence staff, was parachuted into the role after his predecessor stepped aside amid allegations of sexual misconduct. The Canadian Armed Forces faced one of their most contentious and controversial chapters during his tenure. Eyre steered the CAF through those turbulent waters and has been open about the challenges the Forces continue to face. One of those challenges, as he sees it, is a lack of “urgency” in military procurement and preparedness. Now retired, Eyre has penned his memoirs about the lessons learned during his time leading the CAF. It's a rare public effort for a Canadian general, and he talks to The West Block’s Jeff Semple about the book.
